Okanagan Specialty Fruits Inc. (www.okspecialtyfruits.com) is a dynamic agriculture biotechnology company based in Summerland, BC, Canada that specializes in the development and market introduction of novel tree fruit varieties. This position supports our constantly expanding range of activities, including the commercialization of our non-browning Arctic® apple varieties (www.arcticapples.com) in both the US and Canada.

Job Description

The Production Scheduling Coordinator is a professional, self-motivated individual that will be responsible for scheduling Arctic® apple processing, packing, and inventory control of raw product, finished product, and packaging materials. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for producing reports to track inventory against Sales forecasts, PO’s, and shipments. This position requires superior listening and communication skills (written and verbal) including a high proficiency in problem solving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Ability to work independently and in a team-setting is a must.

Position Requirements

  • Associates Degree and 3-5 years production planning and inventory control experience or a Degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Fresh Produce industry.
  • Able to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to function with a high sense of urgency and interface with and influence personnel at all levels.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems, including production planning and scheduling, inventory control, bill of materials, item master and routing functions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and be able to follow directions working with verbal instructions.
  • Ability to function with a high sense of urgency and interface with and influence personnel at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in diverse cross-functional teams.
  • Proactive and team oriented.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office and inventory management software.

Position Responsibilities

  • Develop timely production schedules and materials plan to meet inventory targets and sales demand. Identify risk areas related to material shortages and instigating recovery activities.
  • Develop rolling two-week production plans.
  • Monitor daily production plan to fulfill orders commitment.
  • Develop a realistic materials plan to control all activities for the on-time delivery of components and subcomponents.
  • Create and support Rework orders and Add-on orders if required.
  • Monitor material usage in order to ensure raw material are available according to the production plan.
  • Interpret and Maintain accurate manufacturing BOM and planning parameters of item master records.
  • Coordinate in a cooperative approach with production, project planning, shop supervisors, and managers in the development and adherence to schedules. Report any potential issues promptly so that they can be elevated timely.
  • Attend production meeting and assist in expediting the production order status.
  • Follow up on status of outstanding purchase orders and provide recovery plan.
  • Coordinate with the Transportation Logistics coordinator – to set up new supply planning schedules.
  • Manage an accurate inventory of packaging materials, whole apple, and finished goods.
  • Schedule and track daily/weekly production relative to sales demand.
  • Ensure production schedules effectively meet sales requirements while optimizing efficiency.
  • Assess inventory quality and ensure stock rotation.
  • Maintain regular contact with Sales service team to optimize sales fulfilment planning.
  • Work with assigned production plants and/or co-packers on production schedule requirements to meet sales orders and forecasts.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and functional work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
