Health & convenience: Merging messages

We’re always eager to learn more about what consumers think of Arctic® apples, especially what will make them eager to give our nonbrowning apples a try for themselves. So, this summer we asked as many apple lovers as we could as many questions as possible!

In July, we surveyed 2,500 people from across the U.S. and Canada who are their household’s primary shopper (or shared duties 50/50) and purchase apples at least once a month.

We’ll look forward to sharing more of the results over the next few months; but, today we will focus on those related to health and convenience, the Arctic® apple messages that consumers found most appealing. It makes perfect sense that these would be the two main aspects they’re keen to hear about – we’ve talked about the rise of healthier snacks before, after all! What was particularly interesting for us is how messaging around these topics best resonate.

school-lunch_6728-300x250When it comes to sliced apples consumers number one priority is that they’re as healthy and fresh as if they’d just been sliced moments before. The fact that Arctic® apple slices can be preservative-free thanks to their nonbrowning benefit was the most appealing trait of all, and being able to enjoy the wholesomeness of apples in a more convenient sliced form was essential.

Where health and convenience really start to merge is in language that suggested that Arctic® apples could become associated with better health because they make it easier to enjoy more apples. While there are a number of ways Arctic® apples can help everyone do just that thanks to the Arctic Advantage, their improved convenience is certainly a major one.

Wording like “ready-to-eat” was found to be appealing, which really is the perfect way to describe how Arctic® apples will first be available – snackable bags of nonbrowning slices.

Consumers told us the most appealing way of all to describe Arctic® apples is in statements that combine health and convenience. After all, who doesn’t want it to be easier to eat healthy, delicious apples?

So if you’re like most apple-lovers, we hope you’ll soon look forward to enjoying wholesome, preservative-free nonbrowning Arctic® apples as ready-to-eat slices!
