Boosting produce consumption on both sides of the border

For the produce industry – including our team at Okanagan Specialty Fruits® – advocating for eating more fruits and veggies isn’t just a 9 to 5 job, it’s a lifestyle. It’s something that we’re passionate about all day, every day. And, we can accomplish amazing things by working together!

This week, we’re feeling especially optimistic about the positive impact we can collectively make, thanks to two amazing events. One is the Produce For Better Health (PBH) Foundation’s Annual Meeting: The Consumer Connection, which finished last week in Arizona. And now we’re enjoying the Canadian Produce Marketing Association’s (CPMA) Annual Convention and Trade Show, which kicks off Tuesday!

Proud_Supporter_SignWe’ve long been supporters of PBH, but for readers who aren’t as familiar, you may recognize their amazing “Fruits & Veggies – More Matters” initiative. Whether you’re part of the produce industry or not, it’s worth checking out their great resources on nutritional info, meal planning, and recipe ideas. And there’s plenty more: research, social media parties, videos, and webinars (including one from us!), and I haven’t even gotten to the Annual Meeting yet!

These activities are what the PBH Annual Meeting is all about – working together to develop new and improved ways to boost produce consumption and encourage healthy eating. And after last week’s annual event, which we proudly sponsored, I bet every attendee left feeling better equipped to do just that – we sure did!

So what’s better than a week of produce industry members working together? Two weeks of it! Now CPMA is taking us back north of the border to share our passion for produce and healthy eating in Canada. We’re eagerly awaiting updates on CPMA’s awesome “Half Your Plate” initiative, which offers terrific resources too. There are also educational sessions on important issues like sustainability, social license, and embracing positive innovations. We are even exhibiting at this year’s trade show and will have some tasty dried Arctic® apple slices to share, so we hope you’ll swing by and visit us at booth #601!IMG_20160411_164032

And if you’re wondering about what makes dried Arctic® apple slices so special, it’s because they keep their fresh natural color (without using additives) thanks to their nonbrowning trait. So they simply taste of delicious apple.

With all of the amazing things we can do together at these events, one of our favorites has to be supporting one another to become the best champions we can be for promoting healthier lifestyles. And, we hope that you will join us! Depression got me unexpectedly after the prolonged stress. I started to shake in the morning, wanted to cry for no reason, everything was annoying me and I didn’t want to eat. I could hardly eat a piece of banana. In general, I experienced all the charms of depression. To start with, neurologist prescribed me Xanax 0.5 (1 pill twice a day). I read about it on the website They assured me that it was a day tranquilizer that wouldn’t make me sleepy. I started to take it according to prescription. What can I say? It calms a bit, partly relieves anxiety and makes me a little sleepy.

Hope to see you at CPMA!
