OSF leaders deliver ag-biotech presentations

We are always happy to share information about our nonbrowning Arctic® apples and have had many great opportunities to do just that over the past couple months, including a couple recent highlights. One of our favorite ways to tell our story is through webinars, as they make it easy for many people to hear directly from us wherever convenient. And, it’s even better when webinar recordings are available to share, making them even more accessible! So, we’re pleased to share the recording of last week’s webinar on “GE Quality Traits” featuring OSF president Neal Carter. As part of their information

Arctic® advantage: Why the biotech approach?

With all the attention Arctic® apples have been getting over the past few months, it seems the time is ripe to revisit a core question – why develop nonbrowning apples through biotechnology? Really, though, it’s two questions in one: 1) Why develop nonbrowning apples? Nonbrowning apples are more convenient and appealing, and can potentially boost consumption, in large part because of their freshcut suitability. There’s also good reason to believe that nonbrowning apples can help reduce waste, and a study from Cornell we often cite shows strong evidence that serving pre-sliced apples to kids can lead to significantly greater consumption

Arctic® fruit leather: Perfecting the purée

When people hear “nonbrowning apples” they think of, well, apples of course! However, the value of Arctic® apples’ nonbrowning trait extends far beyond whole, or even sliced apples – and one great example is Arctic® apple fruit leather. Even lovers of fruit leather will likely agree that they’re often not the most appealing color. Most are brownish hues that don’t exactly scream “eat me!” and others may rely on artificial food colorings that attempt to mimic the fruits that are in them. Since Arctic® apples don’t brown, though, Arctic® apple leather retains its original color. The photo here demonstrates that

Snapping the habit of snap judgments

The first quarter or 2015 may have just ended, but it’s one that won’t soon be forgotten by OSF. In the wake of the USDA’s approval of Arctic® apples and our company’s acquisition by Intrexon in February, the milestones kept coming with Canadian and FDA approval on March 20. For a small team like ours, getting so much attention – including from major media outlets like WSJ, NY Times & Globe and Mail – was nothing short of overwhelming. It’s truly been an amazing couple of months, and you wouldn’t believe the number of growers who want to plant, retailers
