Nonbrowning Apple

We at Okanagan Specialty Fruits were pleased to see a couple of articles covering OSF and Arctic® Apples appear in recent issues of the reputable “World Apple Report”.  We are even more pleased to have the opportunity to share these articles on our Arctic Apple website.

In October 2011, we had a survey conducted which asked 1,000 self identified apple eaters a series of questions, including their thoughts on nonbrowning apples and their likelihood to buy Arctic™ Apples.

There are countless things we are excited to share about Arctic™ Apples, but a few points we like to emphasize are:

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could grow tree fruit that is inherently resistant to pests and disease? With biotechnology this can be a reality, as we explain here. Biotechnology is, of course, a very complicated subject that necessitates a strong scientific background to fully understand. That said, the science behind Arctic™ Apples is simple compared to most products that are enhanced through biotechnology.

While some consumers may think of biotechnology companies as massive corporations with hundreds of employees, our company, and leadership, has a humbler origin. Okanagan Specialty Fruits’ founders Neal and Louisa Carter are apple and cherry growers from the small town of Summerland, BC, and prefer to spend more time in their orchard than behind a desk.
