Nonbrowning Apple

Articles from “The World Apple Report” cover OSF and Arctic® Apples

We at Okanagan Specialty Fruits were pleased to see a couple of articles covering OSF and Arctic® Apples appear in recent issues of the reputable “World Apple Report”.  We are even more pleased to have the opportunity to share these articles on our Arctic Apple website.

Sharing results from our consumer research

In October 2011, we had a survey conducted which asked 1,000 self identified apple eaters a series of questions, including their thoughts on nonbrowning apples and their likelihood to buy Arctic™ Apples.

Plenty of health-beneficial antioxidants to be found in Arctic™ Apples

Antioxidants have been gaining a lot of notice over the past few years, but they are not just the latest health fad. Antioxidants have ties to many significant health benefits. Best of all, antioxidant levels are extremely high in apples, and due to their nonbrowning qualities, potentially even higher in Arctic™ Apples. See the full article here to learn more.

Our key messages about Arctic™ Apples

There are countless things we are excited to share about Arctic™ Apples, but a few points we like to emphasize are:

Biotechnology can provide solutions for the apple industry

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could grow tree fruit that is inherently resistant to pests and disease? With biotechnology this can be a reality, as we explain here. What’s more, there are many reasons why apples produced conventionally, organically and through biotechnology can coexist, as we explain here.

Exploring the science behind Arctic™ Apples

Biotechnology is, of course, a very complicated subject that necessitates a strong scientific background to fully understand. That said, the science behind Arctic™ Apples is simple compared to most products that are enhanced through biotechnology.

Introducing our founders: Neal and Louisa Carter

While some consumers may think of biotechnology companies as massive corporations with hundreds of employees, our company, and leadership, has a humbler origin. Okanagan Specialty Fruits’ founders Neal and Louisa Carter are apple and cherry growers from the small town of Summerland, BC, and prefer to spend more time in their orchard than behind a desk.
